Mississauga Raised Bungalow

Welcome to “Anything boys can do, girls can do better”.  Despite the title, this isn’t a feminist manifesto – it’s just a bit of a challenge to myself and to other single women like me to not be afraid of taking on home renovations.  In 2014, I started to write about my big, giant project that was going to take months (or perhaps years).  In fact, it turned out to be a whole bunch of projects, many of which were going to be do-it-yourself renovation projects.

I’d just purchased a new (to me) home in Mississauga, Ontario.  Yes, that’s the big city to the West of Toronto.  The move was mostly motivated by the fact that, while I loved living in Mississauga, I worked in the southeast of Toronto, and after about 5 years, my commute was really driving me crazy.  The home that I purchased was an older raised bungalow that had been an Italian family’s home for decades. It was at least 50 years old and definitely in need of some updates, including:

  • Complete Bathroom Renovation
  • Complete Kitchen Renovation
  • Painting (Can’t wait to add some Colour, I’ve never seen a more white house!)
  • Basement Renovation
  • Yard Work/Landscaping
  • New Electrical Panel

And much more!

Here are the “before” photos:

As I went through the process – which literally took years, I stopped doing regular blog updates and ended up just posting a lot of updates to Facebook. I worked my butt off to make my new house into a home, learning so much as I went through it – from trial and error, from YouTube videos, or from other Bloggers. I also hired the experts as I needed to do that, in order for the updates to be done safely and properly, but I had to do things on a budget which was a big motivator to do what I could on my own!

I’m going to add a new post with some before and after photos and commentary… and then I’ll get into the new project!  Thanks for reading – hope you’ll come back often!
